The Accu-Cut® SRM™ 200 Rotary Microtome is used to thin section in microns the specimen embedded in the paraffin block. Routinely, most specimens are sectioned at 3-5 microns. To accomplish this procedure, the paraffin block the cassette backing is mounted in a moveable chuck. Chuck movement is up and down past a blade edge and front and back movement in given micron increments. Given this movement, the block is sectioned during each pass across the blade edge. The result is a “ribbon” of successive sections each section being “x” number of microns deeper into the block than the preceeding section.
The Accu-Cut® SRM™ 200 is a manually operated rotary microtome.
